Home Learning Questionnaire

ELC and S c h o o l   N e w s

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family safe and well.

Some of the staff and myself will be working in the Eyemouth Learning Community Hub provision at Eyemouth Primary School from Monday 8th June for one week. There is also provision for ELC children which is based at the Highway Day Nursery in Eyemouth which some ELC staff are supporting learning with. Staff from all Learning Community Primary Schools and from Eyemouth High School have helped support the Hub provision for the children of key workers and invited families. We will continue to do so throughout this period of uncertainty.

Glow Teams Parental Engagement Questionnaire and SBC Survey

Please complete the attached questionnaire and return it to myself by email to the Reston Mailbox, on restonps@scotborders.gov.uk I would appreciate if these can be returned by Friday 29th May this will help inform our next steps.

Scottish Borders Council issued a Home Learning Survey to all families on Friday 15th May, please ensure you have completed your views by the 31st May. Here is the link:

https://scotborders.citizenspace.com/children-and-young-people/home-learning-evaluation-may-2020/

This is to help gauge a central response to home learning across our local authority.

Reston Rattle Snake

If you live near the school, why not decorate a stone and add it to our Reston Rattle snake, whom we’ve named ‘Rocco’. We will update the schools Facebook page as he gets longer. Rocco is located at the double gates in front of the big playground. We can’t wait to see him grow!

Community Patchwork

To supplement home learning online we have the opportunity to take part in a local project to make a giant patchwork quilt. All schools in the Eyemouth Learning Community Cluster have been invited to take part so the quilt should be an impressive size. All completed squares can be posted to Mrs Lathe at Eyemouth High School, details are on the poster below or dropped in at the Eyemouth Primary School Hub on Coldingham Road in Eyemouth. If you are unable to do this, please get in touch and I can arrange to collect from Reston Village Shop. Thank you for your support with this.

Primary 7 Updates:

Dalguise

Thank you for your patience. SBC are in touch with our insurers and as soon as an update is provided, I will inform you of when your refund will be made.

P7 Hooded Sweatshirts

These have been ordered and will be presented to the children when it is safe to do so. We would like to mark their leaving of Primary School in a special and fitting way for this fantastic group of P7 learners.

P7 Library Books

Please can all P7 children let Miss Eaves know of a novel of their choice which will be gifted to them on behalf of the Reston Parent Council Forum. Please can your son or daughter let us know the reasons for this so that I can arrange with Miss Bell and Miss Moulin to order their novel choices? These novels will be presented to the children when we mark them as leavers, and in tradition they will be left in the school library for other children to enjoy reading in years to come.

Transition to Eyemouth High School

Please visit the Eyemouth High School website, if you haven’t done so already by following these instructions below. Mr Chapman, Head Teacher and his Deputes, Mrs Patterson and Mrs Fairbairn look forward to meeting with their new P7 families when it is safe and possible to do so.

Parents/pupils need to go to the Eyemouth High School Website then go to:

‘STUDENTS’ tab (along the top)

Then scroll down to the bottom to find ‘P7 transition 2020’

This link will take them straight to the virtual tour:

East Berwickshire Churches are inviting pupils to hang a heart, rainbow or note on any church gate or railing in our area between Thursday 21st May (Ascension Day) and Sunday 31st May (Pentecost Sunday). Any size, shape or colour but make it from waterproof material if possible, or put it in a poly bag. Write on your personal prayer or wish for the world at this difficult time, coping with the stress of the covid-19 virus. Thank you. Rev Norman Whyte.

Transition to P1

We will be sharing a PowerPoint presentation and welcome to P1 Booklet for all of the children who will be starting Primary 1 with us next session. This information will be issued to those new families on Friday 22nd May. For children who are starting Primary 1 at Ayton Primary School, please be assured that Mrs Donkin, Head Teacher and I have been liaising about transition and she will be contacting new families in the near future.

P7 Transition

You should have received a letter from Mrs Patterson, Depute Head Teacher at Eyemouth High School. This was emailed out on Friday 1st May. If you have any queries around P7 transition, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In-service Day – Thursday 7th May

Information – April 20th 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your families all safe and well. I hope you have been able to enjoy some of the lovely weather we have been having lately from the safety of your gardens. We are certainly very lucky to be living in a beautiful part of the countryside. I know that I have enjoyed my daily walk taking in the lovely views we have in Berwickshire.

Eyemouth Learning Community Hub Provision

Some of our children have been accessing the Hub facility which is based at Eyemouth Primary School and the Highway Day Nursery in Eyemouth. These are the facilities which are being used for the children of key workers during the national response to COVID-19 for families of children who attend ELC, Primary School and for S1 and S2 pupils who attend Eyemouth High School. If you are a key worker or have been contacted directly by myself, the school Hub at Eyemouth Primary may be somewhere you would like to access. This can be done by accessing the booking in system for Childcare Hubs on the Scottish Borders Council website at: www.scotborders.gov.uk/coronavirus

Free school meals

If you are entitled to free school meals and you have not been accessing these but wish to do so please get in touch with me. These meals can be transported to those people who cannot collect from the Hub provision at Eyemouth or from the kitchen at Chirnside Primary School.

Home Learning on GLOW TEAMS

Prior to the Easter holiday period we emailed every family a GLOW TEAMs log in for you to use to support your child/children with during the period of school closures. On each class page we will post some learning activities for further home learning for the children to access this term. There are pages set up for each of our three classes, ELC, P1-3 and P4-7.

Each week there will be a list of suggested activities. Spending time as a family to complete activities you wish to do so are also vitally important. Please do what works for you and your family.

I have included the emails for staff should you wish to get in touch with them out with the Glow class page for your son or daughter. We are looking forward to hearing how the children are getting on or if you need any questions answered. Some of my staff work part time at our school so please remember they may not be able to respond to any requests straight away but they will endeavour to do so when they can.

Their email contacts for during normal ELC and school hours are:

P7 Residential Trip to Dalguise

All Head teachers are awaiting further information from the centre at SBC headquarters and when we have this information, I will be writing to all P7 families with your refund. Thank you for your patience with this matter.

Transitions to P1, new classes for next session and for P7

You will receive further information from myself around this as we move forward but please be reassured I am communicating with different ELC settings and Eyemouth High School around this. We will also plan for a transition time in school for all of our current and new pupils when we do return to our school building.

Groupcall Xpressions App

If you haven’t yet signed up for the XPressions app, please do so. Groupcall Xpresssions is a new way for you to view messages from your child’s school through an App on your mobile phone or tablet.  Text alerts will be used for any urgent messages, while all others will be sent using the new App or Groupcall email. Please see flyer attached. If you have any issues/problems with using the Xpressions app, please contact Miss Aitchison through the Reston Primary School mailbox on restonps.scotborders.gov.uk or she can be contacted by email on: eaitchison@scotborders.gov.uk

Reston Parent Council Forum

Once we return to school I will hold a meeting with members of the Parent Council Forum and we can continue with our ongoing business of supporting school improvement and gathering your views moving forward for next session and beyond.
